Since I always get error when patching, I just skip it and play directly by double clicking neuz.exe. Is patching really necessary? Then why am I able to play even without going through the patcher. Its a bit laggy though.
Is it okay to play without patching?

It all depends on error you get, and how to overcome it.
Usual one is where you have to create a folder for Market town.
Without the folder, once you teleport to Market, you will get yourself stuck until you have the folder there.

In addition, as long as you already had patched the game before you the error message(s) appeared, then you are fully able to play the game. The patcher's function is practically to download the necessary game files only. After a maintenance and update you very often have to patch again, other wise you won't be able to play the game.
